Dizraeli

Recorded almost entirely in a single day at the legendary Total Refreshment Centre in London, JOY MACHINE brings together some of the most exciting musicians in London’s new jazz explosion. With contributions from Alabaster DePlume and trumpeter Jonathon Enser, vocals from Dizraeli, drums from Ben Brown, bass from uk jazz scene favourites Daisy George and Joe Downard, synths from Joseph Costi and saxophone from Ronan Perrett.

In the tradition of Miles Davis’s Bitches Brew , the band came to the studio with only one pre-written track (the uplifting summer anthem Greek Summer) and spent the rest of the day improvising wild, explosive music laced with Dizraeli’s rap and spoken word lyricism. The result is JOY MACHINE , a record bursting with urgency, intensity and life, and one that cements Dizraeli’s position as an innovative wordsmith, bringing both personal depth (as in Abigail, a homage to the sister who died before he was born) and fierce political commentary (as in Dear Cousin , a goosebumps-inducing narrative that transports the listener aboard the boat Adriana carrying refugees across the Mediterranean).

Fresh Sound Ensemble

Jordi Pujol, founder of Fresh Sound- 'When a jazz record label like Fresh Sound New Talent, which started with nothing but enthusiasm and passion, reaches 30 years of existence, one thinks something will have to be done to celebrate it. I decided that the best option would be to record a commemorative album. It is obvious that there are many musicians that I admire who have recorded for FSNT, with whom I would have liked to do something. After sitting with this for a while, I came up with the idea of involving the young musicians from the emerging London scene, with whom I had been recording lately, and putting the musicians together in a co-operative project. All of them, refreshing voices on the contemporary jazz scene.'
